Recently, Dr. Hsu Ting-Hao, Director of Digital Smile Reconstruction Center at Smile Dental, was invited by the Department of Dentistry at Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) to deliver a keynote lecture to fifth-year dental students preparing for their clinical clerkships. Centered on "Occlusal Workflows," this exchange served as more than just a knowledge transfer—it was a profound convergence of real-world clinical expertise and academic theory.

Clinical Needs Should Guide the Tools, Not Vice Versa


許庭豪醫師在演講開篇便提出一個引人深思的問題:「當我們面對複雜病例時,首要考量應是使用傳統工具還是數位技術?」
At the outset of the lecture, Dr. Hsu posed a thought-provoking question: "When confronted with complex cases, should our primary consideration be traditional instruments or digital technology?"
他強調,真正的臨床精髓在於「判斷」。醫師必須先精準識別案例的本質與治療目標,才能選擇最合適的 Workflow。數位技術(如數位口掃、動態軌跡系統)固然強大,但若缺乏清晰的診斷思維,工具也僅是裝飾。許醫師帶領學生重新梳理臨床決策路徑,幫助學子們在面對未來診療時,能建立起一套「可預測、可落地」的治療藍圖。
He emphasized that the true essence of clinical practice lies in "judgment." A clinician must first accurately identify the nature of the case and the treatment objectives before selecting the most appropriate workflow. While digital technologies—such as intraoral scanning and dynamic tracking systems—are powerful, they remain mere ornaments without a clear diagnostic mindset. By guiding students through the process of clinical decision-making, Dr. Hsu empowered future dentists to establish "predictable and actionable" treatment blueprints for their upcoming careers.

This demonstration of the transition from "analog" to "digital" transformed abstract anatomical theories into visible, dynamic data, providing students with a tangible understanding of digital transformation in dentistry.
