Recently, Dr. Shih-Kang Chien, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialist with Smile Dental Group, was invited to the United States by Ed Marandola, Founder of X-NAV Technologies, and Dr. Robert W. Emery, Chief Medical Officer. During his visit, Dr. Chien participated in academic exchanges and delivered presentations at several major professional events, sharing Taiwan’s outstanding clinical expertise with the international dental community.

In Taiwan, only a limited number of clinicians have extensive experience applying dynamic navigation technology to highly complex surgical procedures. Dr. Chien has completed more than 150 X-Guide–assisted surgical cases, including challenging cases involving full-arch rehabilitation for edentulous patients and severe alveolar bone atrophy. This extensive clinical experience was a key factor behind the invitation for Dr. Chien to visit the Center for Comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (CCOMFS) in the United States, where he engaged in in-depth clinical exchange with leading oral and maxillofacial surgeons from across the country.

During his presentations, Dr. Chien explored the digital treatment workflows behind two advanced clinical applications, drawing considerable interest and discussion among international dental professionals.
1. 數位導航輔助「全口重建」的精準定位
針對長期缺牙或需多顆重建的患者，錢醫師分享了如何透過術前 3D 影像整合與跨專科治療規劃，結合 X-Guide 術中導航輔助。在導航系統的即時定位下，能更精準地將植體植入合適的骨質中，為後續假牙製作與咬合設計奠定穩固基礎，並大幅提升整體治療流程的一致性與精準度。
Precision Implant Placement in Digitally Guided Full-Mouth Rehabilitation：
For patients with long-term tooth loss or those requiring multiple implants, Dr. Chien shared how preoperative 3D imaging, interdisciplinary treatment planning, and X-Guide intraoperative navigation can be integrated into a comprehensive digital workflow. With real-time navigation guidance during surgery, clinicians can achieve more precise implant positioning within suitable bone structures, establishing a stable foundation for subsequent prosthetic fabrication and occlusal design while improving the consistency and precision of the overall treatment process.
2. 突破重度骨萎縮限制的「顴骨植牙」
對於上顎骨嚴重萎縮、常規植體無法固定的患者，錢醫師也分享了顴骨植牙（Zygomatic Implants）的臨床應用。此項手術涉及神經血管與上顎竇等重要構造，極需仰賴完整的影像評估與專業解剖判讀。結合導航系統術中提供的即時位置資訊，能有效輔助醫師避開危險區域，提升進階手術的安全性與可預期性。
Zygomatic Implants for Patients with Severe Maxillary Bone Atrophy：
For patients with severe maxillary bone atrophy who may not have sufficient bone volume for conventional implant placement, Dr. Chien also discussed the clinical application of zygomatic implants. Because these procedures involve critical anatomical structures, including neurovascular structures and the maxillary sinus, comprehensive imaging evaluation and a thorough understanding of anatomy are essential. By integrating real-time intraoperative navigation, clinicians can better identify anatomical boundaries and avoid high-risk areas, helping to enhance the safety and predictability of these advanced procedures.
